Toronto: Panelists at a recent workshop in Toronto said new approaches should be found to develop appropriate and relevant policies to enhance the bilateral relationship between India and Canada.

The workshop -"Pathways for Canada India Collaborations"- was organised jointly by Bharat Centre of Canada and ICICI-Bank Canada’s Indian @Heart Club in association with the Consulate of India in Toronto on May 28.

The speakers of the workshop discussed various options and opportunities of collaboration between the two countries. Canada and India have long standing bilateral relations built upon shared traditions of democracy, pluralism and strong interpersonal connections.

Canada is a home for around 2 million people with Indian DNA. Obviously, there is much to collaborate. The purpose of this workshop is to check on the possibilities for collaboration options between Canada and India mainly from the aspect of investment, trade and business opportunities in India for Canadian investors, businessmen, entrepreneurs.

The panelists highlighted that for long India has been a priority market for Canada. India is Canada’s 9th largest export market, and 10th largest trading partner. Canada’s commercial priorities in India are targeted at India’s policy objectives and sectors where Canada has a comparative advantage.

The purpose of this workshop was to identify possible new approaches and suggest the need to develop appropriate and relevant policies to enhance the bilateral relationship.

The  panelists of the workshop provided a greater clarity in this regard.--
