Work in tandem during disasters: Amit Shah

New Delhi/UNI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said now with science and tech available to predict disasters it is human and agency coordination that requires to be advanced.

Inaugurating a two-day annual conference on "Capacity Building for disaster response 2022”, organised by National Disaster Response Force here on Thursday, Shah also called upon the agencies to work in tandem to carry out rescue operations during such times.

“The coordination between the agencies is the need of the hour to carry out relief and rescue operations on time at ground and for that capacity building will play a major role,” he said.

He said due to technology and science, agencies now receive information well before disaster strikes in many cases, but to implement at ground level is totally dependent upon the agencies. He also appreciated the work being done by the relief agencies in recent times.

“In 90s our approach was only to provide relief materials to the people who were affected due to disasters but today our agencies not only carried out relief and rescue operations but they have managed to save hundreds of lives,” he added.

Shah said Prime Minister Modi started NDMA National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and NDMP National Disaster Management Plan, (NDMP) and we're continuously working on providing relief in every sort of calamity that strikes in the country.

“Till now 26 states and UTs have constituted SDRF which is good for the future to deal with natural calamity” he added.
