Kolkata/UNI: Alleging that some forces were trying to dismember the country, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday asserted that she would never allow the country to be divided.

Speaking at the Eid-ul-Fitr prayer gathering on Indira Gandhi Sarani (erstwhile Red Road), Banerjee exhorted the people to stay united as "some forces are trying to dismember the country".

"I am ready to sacrifice my life but I won't let the country be divided at any cost," she said.

The Chief Minister, who is also the supremo of the ruling Trinamool Congress, called upon the people to ensure the defeat of the BJP in next year's Lok Sabha election.

Ruling out the implementation of NRC (National Register for Citizens) in the state, the Chief Minister emphatically said that peace would prevail in West Bengal as people don't want riots.

In an apparent reference to central probe agencies like the CBI and the ED, which are investigation a number of alleged scams in the state, Banerjee averred that she will not kowtow at all and continue her fight not only against the "gaddar party" but also against the "agencies".

Iterating that she would protect democracy at any cost, Banerjee said if democracy is at stake, everything will be at stake.

Giving a clarion call to fight the divisive forces, the Trinamool Congress chairperson once again charged the ruling party at the Centre with attempts at changing the country's Constitution.
