Will soon learn and speak in Tamil: Amit Shah

Chennai, Aug 11 (UNI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday regretted that he could not speak in Tamil and promised that he would soon learn it.

Speaking after releasing a book, chronicling the two years in office of Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu here, he expressed regret he could not speak in Tamil.

In his speech delivered in Hindi and translated in Tamil by BJP National Secretary H Raja, he said he was keen to learn and speak in Tamil and that it would happen soon.

Shah said he was participating in this function, not as as the BJP  National President or as MP or Union Home Minister, but as a student of Venkaiah Naidu.

On passage of Bill to annul Article 370 that accorded Special Status to Jammu and Kashmir in Rajya Sabha, he said it was possible only due to the astute leadership of Venkaiah Naidu as the Chairman of the Upper House of Parliament.

Stating that Naidu's life from student days to the post of Vice-President was a good lesson for everyone to learn, Shah said the senior leader fought for it right from his student days and has been jailed during the emergency to restore democracy.

Recalling his stints as Union Minister, he said Naidu, hailing from a farmer's family, was instrumental in implementing various welfare measures for the farmers.
