WHO chief Tedros arrives in India, says he is grateful for the 'warm welcome'

Rajkot:  WHO chief Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus thanked PM Narendra Modi-led government for the 'warm welcome' he received as he arrived in India.

Tedros tweeted: " Just arrived in #India and grateful for a warm welcome from @moayush representatives. Looking forward to events which will set the foundation for integrating traditional medicine with modern health, and benefit people worldwide."

Tedros arrived in Rajkot city on Monday night.

 In a ground breaking ceremony on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lay the foundation stone of WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (GCTM) in Jamnagar at around 3:30 pm.

Mauritius PM Pravind Kumar Jugnauth and WHO Director General Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus will also be with him.

The WHO GCTM, established under the ministry of Ayush, will be the first and the only global outpost centre for traditional medicine across the world.

It will emerge as an international hub of global wellness, the PMO said.

The primary objective of Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (GCTM) is to harness the potential of traditional medicine from across the world through modern science and technology and improve overall health of the communities' the world over.
