West Bengal: TMC panchayat leader in Murshidabad murdered, EC seeks report from DM

Domkol, Mar 19 (UNI) Trinamool Congress leader and panchayat executive of Domkol Altaf Sheikh (46) was murdered while returning home on a motorbike after attending an election rally near his home on Monday night, police investigating the crime said today.

The Election Commission (EC) has sought an immediate report on the crime from the Murshidabad district magistrate.

Police quoting eyewitnesses said that the victim and another Sabbir while returning home on a motorbike around 10 pm, a van hit them near Sahadiya school and as them fell on the ground, some miscreants from car tool Altaf near a bush and lynched him to death with sharp weapons.

While many local people said the political murder happened due to infighting in the ruling party, which, however, pointed out at the Congress party.

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury denied this saying the TMC was behind the murder for its factional feud.
