A 20-year-old medical student was found hanging inside her room at the ESI quarters in Kamarhati region of West Bengal, media reports said.

She was a student of Kolkata's state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The student lived in the quarter with her mother.

Her mother was a doctor at the local ESI hospital.

Sources told India Today that the student may have been suffering from depression.

According to reports, her mother forced the door open to see her daughter hanging from the ceiling after finding no response from her room despite knocking at the door several times.

The doctor declared her dead after she was rushed to ESI Hospital in Kamarhati.

The body was later sent for post-mortem, and a case of unnatural death was registered at the Kamarhati police station, reported India Today.

No suicide note was recovered from the scene.
