West Bengal government announces half-a-day closure on Monday as a mark of respect to late singer Lata Mangeshkar

Kolkata: The West Bengal government announced half-a-day closure to its establishments and educational institutions on Monday as a mark of respect to late singer Lata Mangeshkar, who died on Sunday at aged 92 in Mumbai.

A government notification said, "As a mark of respect for the departed icon and Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar, state government offices, undertakings and educational institutions under the control of the government shall be closed in the 2nd half of February 7".

State information and cultural affairs department also set up a portrait of the legendary singer at Rabindra Sadan, the cultural hub of the state, allowing the common people to pay their last respect to the cultural icon of India.

The Sadan was functional from 10 am to 5 pm for the day.
