We must bridge the many gaps and inequalities in our society: Vice President

New Delhi, Jan 3 (IBNS): Vice President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu has said that we must bridge the many gaps and inequalities we have in our society.

He was addressing the gathering after releasing the book ‘Bharat ke Rajneta – Ramdas Athawale’ authored by Rajiv Suman, here on Wednesday.

The Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

The Vice President said that Ramdas Athawale has emerged as vocal leader for the emancipation of Dalits in modern society, adding that the book describes his accomplishments on crucial issues of national importance like, equal opportunities for all citizens, representation of women in Parliament and legislatures and protection indigenous tribal population.

The Vice President said that the book talks about Athawale’s approach of peaceful resistance and protest that strengthens the democracy adding that it is important to identify glaring inequalities and take concrete action to bridge the gaps.

The Vice President said that proper representation of women of the country in Parliament and state legislatures should be a reality soon.

He further said that the the government should pay attention towards India’s Tribal population and said that protection of De-notified, Nomadic tribes is very important.

Their uplift and development is necessary for the preservation of the rich diverse Indian culture, he added.

The Vice President said that what is required is critical introspection, strong political will, committed implementation and transformation of mindset.

He further said that violence, hatred and divisive politics can’t achieve any positive results.

Only mutual respect and dialogue can, he added.
