Birbhum, Apr 19 (IBNS) A Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) activist was allegedly beaten to death by workers of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal's Birbhum district, said reports on Saturday.

According to reports, TMC supporters allegedly found some suspected explosives on a road in Siuri area by which state Chief Minister and party supremo Mamata Banerjee was supposed to travel during her poll campaign in the district on Friday.

At the time of the recovery of the suspected explosives, 40-year-old farmer Seikh Hiralal was passing by the site.

TMC workers reportedly attacked Hiralal in public alleging conspiracy against the CM. He received serious head injuries which led to his death on way to the hospital, said doctors.

The police said they have booked eight TMC workers in this regard.

As many as five CPI-M supporters have been arrested for allegedly planting the explosives.
