Water relief train to reach Latur later on Monday
Mumbai, Apr 11 (IBNS) Water-filled railway wagons are on their way to Latur in Marathwada region of Maharashtra on Monday to provide much-needed drinking water to one of the worst drought hit areas in India, according to media reports.
The steam-cleaned 50 tank wagons were dispatched from Kota in Rajasthan on Friday and filled with water at Miraj in Maharashtra. The train is expected to reach Latur later on Monday.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis tweeted on Sunday "Railway wagons reach Miraj.Filling up of drinking water in process.Wagons to be sent to #drought affected Latur soon. Maharashtra Govt and @RailMinIndia is working hard to bring relief to people in #drought affected region of #Maharashtra."
The second goods train consisting of 50 wagons is expected to be ready for water loading around April 15, according to reports.
Each wagon can carry up to 54,000 litres of water.
