Waiting for results: Jaya on support to NDA
Chennai/New Delhi, May 14 (IBNS): Even as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders claimed to achieve a clear majority for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the centre, media reports speculate support from various regional parties including the AIADMK, led by Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa.
However, Jayalalithaa herself refused to comment till the results for the Lok Sabha polls are declared on Friday.
"I am waiting for the results to be out the day after tomorrow like every citizen of India. All I can say at this juncture is let's wait for the result to come out. I will give you my comment then," she told reporters on Wednesday.
Earlier, AIADMK leader K Malaisamy said both Jayalalithaa and Modi are very good friends and have mutual respect.
He said they would like to have close ties with the NDA government if they come to power, especially for the benefit of the state.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Prakash Javedkar said the BJP-led-NDA will welcome support from any parties.
"Though we are confident to get a clear majority, all parties who want to support the NDA for the public interest are welcomed," Javedkar said.
If the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) wins a clear majority, a new government led by Narendra Modi could be a reality by May 20, according to reports, even as top BJP leaders are meeting the Gujarat Chief Minister in Gandhinagar to discuss their post result strategy.
Media reports said Modi could take office sooner if NDA gains clear majority.
A staggered nine-phase Lok Sabha poll ended on May 12 in India with projections in all exit polls that BJP-led NDA will come to power.
Several of the exit polls said NDA will bag at least 272 seats while some put the figure at around 282 in the 543 member Parliament.
