Uttarakhand crisis: Speaker disqualifies rebel Congress legislators?
Dehradun, Mar 27 (IBNS): Amid unconfirmed reports that nine legislators from Uttarakhand have been disqualified, lawyers of the rebel Congress MLAs are meeting Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal on Sunday, media reports said.
Uttarakhand is facing a political crisis where some Congress lawmakers have rebelled against Chief Minister Harish Rawat.
Nine Congress lawmakers had rebelled against Rawat in March as they sought a vote division on the floor of the house.
The Speaker, however, rejected the demand made by them.
According to reports, the Speaker has also disqualified the nine legislators after his meeting with the state Chief Minister on Saturday.
The BJP called the decision "unconstitutional".
Earlier, deepening the crisis, the rebel leaders have released a video of he Chief Minister and alleged that in order to save his government in the state he is indulging in horse-trading.
Former CM Vijay Bahuguna, who heads to nine-member group, told The Times of India, "If Harish Rawat thinks the video is doctored he should ask for CBI probe into the matter. There can be nothing more concrete than this to prove that Rawat is involved in horse trading to save his government."
