Uttar Pradesh: Undertrial escapes from police custody

Gonda, Jul 27 (UNI) An undertrial, who was being taken to a court for hearing from the Kachehri railway station, fled from police custody in the city Kotwali area of this district in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.

Police Inspector Alok Kumar Rao here said notorious criminal Anup Kumar, a resident of Rampur Buzurg village in the Salempur area of the Deoria district, had been behind bars in the Kanpur jail on serious charges like murder, attempt to murder, loot, etc.

Rao said the police constables were taking him to Deoria for a court hearing in police custody. The train had stopped at the Kachehri railway station on the way when Anup gave the constables a slip and fled from the spot.

The Inspector said based on the report of the constables who were taking him, a case has been registered into the matter and a manhunt has been launched to nab the absconding miscreant.
