At least six persons died and around 27 others were injured when a contractual bus of Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) was hit by the truck in AIIMS area of Gorakhpur district, police sources said here on Friday.

Police sources said that the incident took place near Jagdishpur on Gorakhpur-Kushinagar highway when two roadways buses were hit by the truck late on Thursday night.

"Six persons were killed in the incident whereas 27 others were injured. The injured have been admitted to the district hospital and medical college," they said.

Police sources said that late on Thursday night a tyre of one of the contractual buses going to Padrauna from Gorakhpur got punctured near Jagdishpur after which the conductor called the second bus as replacement.

"While the passengers were boarding the second bus the speeding truck hit both the buses," they said.

Police sources said that three deceased were being said to be residents of Kushinagar district and efforts were being made to identify three others.

"Condition of five injured is stated to be serious," they said.
