UP rapes: Akhilesh reviews law and order situation
Lucknow, June 10 (IBNS) In the wake of protests over rising rape cases in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday reviewed the law and order situation in the state.
He held a review meeting in Lucknow on Tuesday with District Magistrates (DMs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) of 85 districts, along with senior government officials.
Recently, Yadav transferred as many as 10 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers.
The IPS officers who were transferred included Moradabad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Bijnore Superintendent of Police (SP), Hapur SP, Saharanpur SSP and Auraiya SP.
The Samajwadi Party (SP) government in Uttar Pradesh said it has decided to act tough on the bureaucrats in connection with the Badaun gangrape and murder case, which has attracted the attention of national political leaders, as many of them visited the victims' family members.
The Akhilesh Yadav government on June 2 removed Principal Secretary for Home Anil Gupta.
This came a day after, the UP government sacked state Chief Secretary Javed Usmani.
Two Dalit minor sisters were allegedly gangraped and then hanged from a tree at Katra village in Badaun district on May 27.
The cousin sisters, aged 14 and 15 respectively, were reportedly missing since May 27 night.
Another minor was allegedly raped and later hanged from a tree in Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh, said reports on June 4.
A 15-year-old was allegedly abducted by six men when she went out of her house to relieve herself and her body was later found hanging from a tree, said reports.
"My daughter was raped and killed by our 40-year-old neighbour and his friends. That old man wanted to marry my daughter. When we objected, he did this crime," said the girl's father.
