Union Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and 15 others injured in public meeting dais collapsed

Guwahati, July 6 (IBNS): Union Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and 15 others were injured when a dais of BJP Yuva Marcha public meeting in Assam's Dibrugarh district collapsed on Monday.

The incident happened at the end of the meeting when more than 100 people gathered at the dais to meet the Union minister which designed for 25 people. It could not take weight of excess people and caved.

Sarbananda Sonowal has received a back injury and a doctor team has checked him.

"Doctor advised him to be in rest, " BJP MLA Prasanta Phukan said.

"When the dais collapsed, state BJP unit president Siddhartha Bhattacharya, MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Rameswar Teli and other leaders of the saffron party were on the dias, " the BJP MLA said.

BJP Yuva Marcha National president and MP Anurag Thakur left 30 minutes before the dias collapsed.

Several injured persons have been admitted at nearest hospital.
