Union Minister Naqvi held after court convicts him

New Delhi, Jan 14 (IBNS) Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi was on Wednesday taken to judicial custody after a court convicted him for violating model code of conduct during the 2009 Lok Sabha polls.
The  Additional judge of the civil court in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh held Naqvi guilty for breaching prohibitory orders.
 
Reports said the quantum of punishment is yet to be announced.
 
An FIR was registered against Naqvi and his associates at Patwai police station in 2009 for unlawful assembly and trying to barge into a police station after his convoy was stopped by lawkeepers for cheque during electioneering.
 
Naqvi is the Union Minister of state for Minority Affairs and a front ranking leader of the ruling BJP.
