Union minister call on Perumbavoor rape and murder victim

Kochi, May 5 (IBNS) Union minister of social justice and empowerment Thawar Chand Gehlot, on Thursday met the mother of the 30-year-old law student, who was brutally raped and murdered on April 28, according to media sources.
It has also been reported that AB Jijimon replaced Anil Kumar, deputy superintendent of police, Perumbavoor  and will be heading the team handling the case.

No arrests have been made so far in the case.

In another incident, a nursing student has been allegedly gang-raped in  Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram city on Tuesday, media reports said.

She has named two of her attackers as Sujith, 25, and Shyju, 24, NDTV reported.

Meanwhile, BJP has approached the Election Commission (EC) alleging that the law and order situation in Kerala is deteriorating and the fear for safety will impact women and Dalit voters. The party has also told EC that polling Kerala must be held under the supervision of paramilitary forces, according to media news channels.

Film maker and Oscar winner Resul Pookutty tweeted, "Guys and Gals be firm about this, don't let down #Jisha. Kerala is not Delhi, we have to be assertive."

As gruesome details of the Perumbavoor rape and murder spilled out, most people drew a parallel with the Nirbhaya case -- the gang rape of a Delhi student in a moving bus in 2012.
