Union government clears Dalai Lama's visit to Arunachal Pradesh next year

| | Oct 27, 2016, at 10:27 pm
New Delhi, Oct 27 (IBNS): Spiritual leader Dalai Lama is a guest of India and he is free to travel to any part of the country, the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursda.

The central government has cleared Dalai Lama's planned visit to Arunachal Pradesh in March 2017.

Pema Khandu, chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh, early in October, had invited the spiritual guru to visit the state.

Dalai Lama had also visited the state before.

As Arunachal Pradesh falls under restricted area, official permission is required to enter the state.

Indians, other than natives of Arunachal Pradesh, have to obtain Inner Line Permits (ILP)  while foreigners have to obtain Protection Area Permit (PAP) for entering Arunachal Pradesh.

China had protested when Richard Verma, the US Ambassador to India, had visited Arunachal Pradesh on Oct 2 for the Tawang Festival.
