Unified opposition meets EC demanding return of ballot paper in upcoming polls
Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad led-team went to the Election Commission with a demand to return to an electoral system which was started in 1950-1951.
While interacting with the media, Azad said: "After the elections that took place in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and by-polls in Maharashtra, people as well all political parties lost faith in the voting machines. We demand the return of ballot papers in conducting the elections."
Recently, in Madhya Pradesh during a trial operation of voting machines, several were seen to be malfunctioned which had raised the controversy even more, after Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati's allegation of EVM tampering post UP assembly election.
However, the EC rejected such allegations stating that EVM tampering is impossible.
Few of the reasons of such an impossibility stated by EC is that there is an inbuilt chip in every voting machine which cannot be tampered and also hacking could not be done because it is not connected to internet services.
Bharatiya Janata Party retorted to such allegations and said that it is the unified oppositions' hypocrisy since they never complained about voting machines in the states where they win, be it Congress' Punjab or Aam Admi Party's in Delhi.
