Under construction flyover collapses on busy road in Kolkata, several dead

Kolkata, Mar 31 (IBNS): Several persons were killed and many others were injured on Thursday when a portion of an under-construction flyover collapsed near Ganesh Talkies cinema hall in north Kolkata, reports said.
According to reports, a part of under-construction Vivekananda Flyover suddenly collapsed on the crossing of Rabindra Sarani and Vivekananda Road at around 12:30 pm.
 
According to locals, a huge number of vehicles and many people have been stuck under the collapsed flyover.
 
Police force, fire tenders and Disaster Management Group (DMG) personnel have reached the spot and started rescue operation.
 
Cranes have been called in to lift the collapsed concrete blocks. Central Police Force and Indian Army personnel have joined the rescue operation as well.
 
According to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital, over seven persons are being treated there with severe injuries and three people were announced brought dead, and according to Marwari Relief Society Hospital, 35 injured have been admitted there so far. 
 
Cancelling her election campaign, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee is returning to Kolkata.
 
Traffic in this part of the city has been completely disrupted due to the disaster. Police have not declared the exact number of injuries or deaths officially so far.
 
Death toll could be raised, according to locals accounts.
