'Unconstitutional and illegal': SC cancels 12 Maharashtra BJP MLAs' suspension

| @indiablooms | Jan 28, 2022, at 04:56 pm

New Delhi/IBNS: In a big relief for the saffron camp, the Supreme Court on Friday cancelled 12 Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs' suspension by the state assembly resolution, media reports said.

The lawmakers were suspended for their alleged unruly behaviour.

The top court said the suspension beyond assembly sessions is "unconstitutional" and "illegal".

The rules say MLAs can be suspended for the session.

In the 2019 elections, though the BJP emerged as the single largest party in an alliance with the Shiv Sena, the latter broke up with the saffron party and later struck a fresh deal with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress to form the government.

Sena's Uddhav Thackeray is presently the Maharashtra Chief Minister with the support from NCP and Congress.
