| @indiablooms | Feb 25, 2022, at 06:45 pm

Srinagar/UNI: Security forces shot dead two militants in the ongoing operation in Kashmir on Saturday, officials said.

The gunfight erupted at Amshipora area of south Kashmir's Shopian district when joint teams of forces launched an anti-militancy operation in the area following an input about the presence of militants.

"As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists opened fire triggering off a gunfight. So far, two terrorists have been killed," a security official said.

The identity and the affiliation of the slain militants could not be established immediately.

Police said the search is going on in the area.

"Incriminating materials including arms & ammunition (has been) recovered. Search (is) going on..," a police tweet said.

This is the second gunfight in Shopian district in the last six days.

On Feb 19, two soldiers and a local Lashkar-e-Taiba militant were killed in a gun battle at Chermarg Zainapora.
