Twitter India summoned by parliamentary panel over 'anti-Right-wing bias'

The committee has also called officials from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY).

The meeting, which will discuss the issue of safeguarding citizens’ rights on the social media platform, will be held on Feb 11 at 3 pm in New Delhi.

BJP leader Anurag Thakur will head the panel, which will discuss a range of issues concerning the use of social media.

This comes after the members of Youth for Social Media Democracy, a right-wing group, protested outside the Twitter India office alleging that the company was blocking right-wing accounts.

According to the protesters allegations, the social media platform is failing to keep a check on abusive behaviour from their political rivals.

However, Twitter India has been very prompt in suspending right-wing accounts, said the protesters.

Last year, the Centre had issued a notice to Facebook, asking for its response over the Cambridge Analytica data breach .
