Rawat was elected the BJP's legislature party leader by party MLAs on Friday. He will take oath on Saturday.
Rawat, 57, was elected to the state Assembly from Doiwala constituency as he defeated Congress's Hira Singh Bisht by a margin of over 24,000 votes.
Rawat, a Thakur leader, who is said to be close to RSS, the ideological mentor of BJP, was among the frontrunners for Uttarakhand CM's post.
He is also known for his proximity to BJP chief Amit Shah.
