Top Karbi militant leader surrendered

Guwahati, July 16 (IBNS): A top leader of Karbi militant group Karbi People Liberation Tigers (KPLT) and a cadre laid down arms before police in Assam's Karbi Anglong district on Thursday, officials said.

Assam police CPRO Rajib Saikia said that self styled deputy C-in-C of the outfit Saron Kelling alias Stanley Kelling and his associate Pangri Timung alias Harison surrendered before police in Diphu of the hill district.

The militant duo deposited one AK-56 rifle with magazine and 23 rounds ammunition.

KPLT is involved extortion, kidnapping in Karbi Anglong, Nagaon districts.

The militant group killed SP of Hamren police district Nityananda Goswami in last year.

On other hand, Assam police DGP Khagen Sarma said that, police army and other security agencies will continue massive joint operation against militants in Assam.
