TMC removes Mukul Roy as general secretary

Kolkata, Feb 28 (IBNS): The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday removed senior party leader Mukul Roy from the post of national general secretary.

Subrata Bakshi has been named the new All India General Secretary of the party.

The decision was taken during the party's working committee meeting on Saturday.

Speaking on the development, Roy told media: "When I had made the application for the formation of the party under the Representation of the People Act On Dec 17, 1997, at that time the current chairperson (Mamata Banerjee) was not a member of the party."

He said: "Only future will tell whether the decision taken today was correct or wrong...It is too early to make any comment."

The decision further fueled speculation about the growing rift between Roy and Banerjee.
