Tibetan exile leader visits Washington, meets leaders to seek support against China's repression

Washington: Tibetan exile leader Penpa Tsering recently met  congressional leaders, state department officials, civil society groups, and local Tibetan Americans and Chinese Americans during his visit to the USA.

He met the leaders to build a  strong bipartisan support for Tibet.

Penpa, who is the Sikyong (President) of the Central Tibetan Administration, was in Washington, DC this week on his first trip to the US capital since his election last year, reports  ANI.

During his visit, he met House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Following the meeting, he tweeted: "For Tibetan people and millions facing oppression, Madam @SpeakerPelosi represents hope. Her ardent advocacy has been instrumental in bringing the Tibetan people's voice to the global stage. It was such an honour meeting her today. Thank you, Madam Speaker, for all that you do."

During his visit, Penpa also met the Undersecretary of State Uzra Zeya, who has served as the Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues since December 2021, Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom Rashad Hussain, Chinese democracy activists among others, reports ANI.

" It was an honour meeting @UnderSecStateJ , during which we discussed ways to collectivize our efforts to bring concrete results in resolving the Sino-Tibet conflict through dialogue. We remain committed to the Middle Way Approach," the Tibetan leader tweeted.

He also met  Richard Gere, chairman of the International Campaign for Tibet (ICT), and Namgyal Choedup, representative of exiled Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama.

He said: "Had the honour of meeting @RepMcCaul, alongside Richard Gere, Chairman of ICT @SaveTibetOrg. We discussed the critical situation inside Tibet and our collaboration and initiatives moving forward to advance the Tibet cause.
