Three Karbi militants killed in Assam encounter

Guwahati, July 29 (IBNS): Three hardcore militants belonging to Karbi People's Liberation Tiger (KPLT) were killed in a fierce gun fight with security forces in Assam's Karbi Anglong district on Wednesday, officials said.

Defence spokesman based in Guwahati said that, based on intelligence input, army and police jointly launched operation at Duni Tokbi village under Samelangso police station in the hill district on Wednesday morning.

"The hiding militants had opened fire on the troops and tried to flee from the remote area, but security personnel had plugged the escape routes. During the fierce gun battle three militants killed on spot, " the Defence spokesman said.

The slain militants including an operational commander of KPLT who was also the Sergeant Major of the unified command of KPLT and UPLF have yet to be identified.

Security forces recovered one AK-56 rifle with magazine, one M-20 rifle, one 9mm pistol, some ammunition, six bags and other war like stores from the encounter area.

Security forces also busted a well concealed and stocked hideout.

Recently the self styled deputy C-in-C of the outfit group had laid down arms before police in Diphu.
