Thirteen people arrested in connection with Siddalingeshwara Jatra flouting lockdown

Kalaburagi/UNI: Wadi Police on Saturday arrested 13 people, including Shri Siddalingeshwara Temple Trust Secretary Gundanna Bali, for conducting Shri Siddalingeshwara Jatra at Ravoor village of Chittapur taluk on Thursday violating prohibitory orders amid the threat of spreading Coronavirus.

Superintendent of Police Martin Marbaniang today said that Wadi police have arrested the 13 people who were actively involved in the chariot pulling ceremony of Shri Siddalingeshwara deity in which hundreds of devotees participated violating Lockdown norms.

Police have registered FIR against 20 people of the Temple Trust and against 200 people of Ravoor village.

He said that entire Ravoor village has been sealed down for 14 days from Thursday and it has been decided to screen all the villagers and for this a special team of Doctors have been dispatched to the village.

Already two officers including Child Development Officer and One Sub-Inspector were suspended pending inquiry and show-cause notices have been served on Sedam Assistant Commissioner, Chittapur Tahasildar, PDO of Ravoor and Village accountant of Ravoor for their negligence in preventing Jatra of Shri Siddalingeshwara deity.

Covid-19 positive cases were already reported in Wadi and Shahabad town which is nearer to Ravoor village and one more Covid-19 positive case was reported today also.
