Teenager killed in encounter between militants and forces in South Kashmir

Srinagar, May 2 (IBNS): A civilian was killed in Turkwangam area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district where a gunfight broke out between militants and government forces.    

Reports said that government forces cordoned off Turkwangam village after receiving inputs about the presence of militants there.

Reports added that the forces established contact with the militants and there was heavy exchange of fire.

Witnesses said that a large number of youth hit to roads and clashed with deployed forces.

Forces retaliated with bullets and tear-smoke shells when youth pelted stones on them.

Witnesses added that four persons one of them critically suffered injuries and had been hospitalized.

The critically injured youth who was identified as Inayat Ahmed according to police is stable and treated in hospital.

However, during fresh clashes, a youth identified as Muhammad Umar of Pinjora suffered a bullet injury and later on he succumbed to his wounds.  

The intermittent firing was going on till last reports were received.

Clashes also broke out in Pulwama district where youth pelted stones on deployed forces who retaliated with tear-smoke shells.

Meanwhile, internet service has been suspended in parts of south Kashmir.
