Chennai, Jan 6 (IBNS): The Madras High Court on Friday asked the bus strikers to resume their services in Tamil Nadu after the transport facilities were greatly hit for a day, media reports said.

Earlier the High Court refused to begin suo motu cognizance against the strikers.

The strike has been called by the bus union after meeting state transport minister over the demand of pay hike of 2.57% as opposed to government's proposal of 2.44%.

The strikers want their salaries to be at par with the drivers in other states.

Due to the ongoing strike, the bus services crippled totally in large parts of the state on Friday.

A collector, according to The Times Of India, claimed the bus services were affected least in Salem district where around 86% of government buses are operating.

In the capital city, Chennai, a stone pelting incident has occurred at a bus depot. Several daily commuters are stranded on the bus stand in Chennai due to the strike.

Around 1.8 crore passengers avail the bus services across the state, reports said.
