Swamy asked to "zip up", PM Modi breaks silence on remarks
New Delhi, June 27 (IBNS) Often called a "misguided missile" for choosing his political targets to run them down, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, who of late was aiming at none other than his own party's Finance Minister Arun Jaitley by his remarks against some top financial officials, has reportedly been asked to "zip up" by the party, according to media reports, while the PM Modi referring to him told a news channel that he disapproved of hunger for publicity.
An NDTV report said Swamy, the BJP Rajya Sabha MP, has privately been warned to "zip up" after his recent tirade against Jaitley.
Also according to Times Now, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday disapproved of Subramanian Swamy's remarks against Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan and other top finance ministry officials saying they are "inappropriate".
Calling Rajan "no less patriotic", Modi told the channel editor: "Whether it is in my party or not, still I think such things are inappropriate. This fondness for publicity is never going to do any good to the nation. People should conduct themselves with utmost responsibility. If anybody considers himself above the system, it is wrong."
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday evening after he came back to the capital cutting short by a day his China visit.
Media reports said apart from briefing the PM on what transpired during his visit to China, Jaitley is expected to raise the issue of unrelenting tirade BJP MP Subramanian Swamy has unleashed against him and the officials of his ministry.
Reports, however, quoted officials sources as saying that the meeting has nothing to do with the Swamy issue.
The BJP leadership is said to be upset over Swamy’s open attacks on Jaitley and top bureaucrats. Swamy's threat of a "bloodbath" and other innuendos aimed at Jaitley are not going down well among the people, the party leaders feel.
Last week, Swamy, 76, took to the Twitter to attack Chief Economic Advisor Arvind Subramanian, who is the top aide to the Finance Minister, accusing him of siding with the US in a row over intellectual property rights before he joined the government.
Jaitley told reporters that it is unfair to attack those in government “whose discipline and constraints of office restrain them from responding”. In a tweet, the minister also countered Swamy comment against another bureaucrat, Shaktikanta Das, describing it as “an unfair and false attack on a disciplined civil servant” in the Finance Ministry.
Swamy earlier claimed credit for RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan deciding to not seek another terms as the country's central bank's head, close on the heels of Swamy attacking him on economic issues.
