Supreme Court permits SIT to file chargesheets, take actions in Vyapam scam
A bench headed by Chief Justice H L Dattu passed this order after the CBI said that there were many cases which had not yet been taken over by the central agency as directed by the court.
The apex court will hear on July 24 the CBI plea that SIT of MP Police be allowed to do the needful till transfer of cases to the central probe agency is complete.
Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar and additional solicitor general Maninder Singh informed the court that 245 accused could stand benefited if their bail were not opposed by the STF/SIT or chargesheet not filed.
SC asked the STF and SIT to take appropriate action under criminal procedure code for these 245 accused and asked petitioners Digvijay Singh and others to file reply to CBI's plea by Thursday. The matter will be heard on Friday.
The Supreme Court had ordered the transfer of all the Vyapam scam cases to the CBI from the Madhya Pradesh police on the July 9.
The CBI had on Saturday registered a preliminary inquiry into the mysterious deaths of nine persons allegedly linked to Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh.
The probe relates to deaths of Anand Singh, Ashutosh Tiwari, Gyan Singh, Anant Ram Tagore, Ravendra Prakash Singh, Prem Lata Pandey, Vikas Pandey, Rajendra Arya and Sanjay Kumar Yadav.
The multi- crore Vyapam scam that leaves on its trail a series of mysterious deaths involves a racket that operates in getting government jobs and admission to elite colleges in exchange for money.
