Supreme Court issues notice to Azam Khan for comment on Bulandshahr gang-rape incident

New Delhi, Sept 27 (IBNS) : The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the CBI to issue notice to Uttar Pradesh minister Azam Khan for calling the Bulandshahr gangrape a political conspiracy, reports said.

The top court asked why any lawyer representing Khan had not appeared after a  notice served to the politician.

The matter will be next heard on October 25.

The Supreme Court had earlier  issued notice to Khan, saying  how can a person in authority, who has nothing to with it, comment on the crime.

After the Bulandshahr incident, in which a mother and her 14-year-old daughter were gang-raped by miscreants on July 29, Azam Kahn's made a comment possibly to counter the bitter  criticism against Uttar Pradesh's law and order situation.

"To get power, politicians can get down to any level, they can murder people, trigger riots, kill innocent people. So the truth has to be found out," he said.

He, however, clarified later that he didn't mean to say the Bulandshahr incident was an "opposition conspiracy".

"I just said that the Uttar Pradesh polls are nearing and the fact that so many such incidents are happening needs to be investigated," he said.

The Bulandshahr rape survivor's father had sought the registration of an FIR against Khan for his remarks.
