Srinagar-Jammu highway closed after heavy snowfall

Srinagar, Jan 6 (IBNS) The 300-km-long strategic Srinagar-Jammu highway was closed after heavy snowfall on both sides of Jawahar Tunnel on Friday.

Due to snowfall at Jawahar Tunnel and Patnitop, the highway was closed for vehicular traffic. The roads are in slippery conditions during the night, said an official.

Heavy snowfall is going on at Jawahar Tunnel and Banihal stretch. Since early Friday, all sort of traffic towards Srinagar was stopped at Jammu, Manwal and Udhampur, said an official.

Some vehicles were stranded at different places along the highway, he said, adding that Border Roads Organization (BRO) is working to clear the road.
