New Delhi, Jan 26 (IBNS):  South African President Cyril Ramaphosa met top Congress leaders, including party president Rahul Gandhi, in New Delhi on Saturday.

Apart from Rahul Gandhi, former Indian PM Manmohan Singh also met Cyril.

"Former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh, Congress President @RahulGandhi and senior INC leaders meet South African President, @CyrilRamaphosa and the South African delegation," tweeted the Congress party.

Cyril Ramaphosa on Saturday said he had an 'honour' to attend the Indian Republic Day celebration as the chief guest of the event.

He expressed his hope that the visit will further strengthen bonds of friendship between the two countries.

"Thank you for hosting us Prime Minister - it was truly an honour to spend such an auspicious occasion with the people of India, and to further strengthen the bonds of friendship between our two countries. #SAinIndia #RepublicDay2019," the South African President tweeted.

Indian PM Narendra Modi earlier welcomed the President to the country and posted: "India is honoured to welcome President @CyrilRamaphosa. He is visiting us at a special time, when we are marking Bapu's 150th birth anniversary and have marked the birth centenary of beloved Madiba.
This visit will have a positive impact on India-South Africa relations."
