Sonowal pitches for time bound strategy for power department

Guwahati, Aug 16 (IBNS): Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday reviewed the power scenario in the State and directed the Power Department to chalk out a time bound strategy to improve the power scenario in the State.

Presiding over a high level meeting in the conference room of his office in Assam Secretariat on Tuesday to take stock of the power situation in the state, Sonowal said that subsidiary companies of the ASEB should intrinsically be associated with the lives of the people of Assam and must conceive of innovative ideas to make Assam a power surplus State.

Sonowal also asked the Power Department to focus its attention to chalk out measures to reduce transmission and distribution loss and connect its schemes with the lives of the people of Assam.
          
Sonowal took a stock on the status of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana in the State and asked the implementing agency to complete the execution on a priority basis.

He also asked the Power Department to formulate ways and means to develop a quality maintenance legacy in the State so that the Power Department lifts its impression as a credible department in Assam.
          
The Assam CM also asked the concerned bodies to professionally render their services in transmission and distribution, as lot of hitches in power sector emanates from transmission and distribution.

Sonowal while taking stock of the status of all the power generating stations of the State enquired about their share in the total energy requirement of the State.

He also sought to bring in revolutionary changes in a time bound manner in the service delivery system and revenue generation of the Power Department of the State.
          
Additional Chief Secretary and Chairman of Assam Power Generation  Corporation and Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd K.V. Eapen, Commissioner and Secretary to the Chief Minister Sanjay Lohia and host senior functionaries of the Power Department were present at the meeting.
