Sonowal directs expeditious and timely implementation of budget announcements

Guwahati, Aug 28 (IBNS) : Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal directed the Social Welfare Department to expeditiously complete the identification process of differently abled persons of the state and set time frame for Direct Benefit Transfer of fund as financial assistance for medical care to them under Deen Dayal Divyang Sahajya Achani.

Sonowal directed this while reviewing the implementation of budget announcements of Social Welfare Department alongwith Power and Administrative Reforms & Training Department in the Chief Minister’s Conference Room in Janata Bhawan in Dispur on Monday.

Reiterating state government’s commitment for inclusive growth of all sections of the society, Sonowal asked the department to enhance the number of disability screening camps covering all legislative constituencies.

He further directed the department to launch the Deen Dayal Divyang Sahajya Achani through distribution of sanction letters to identified Divyangs on Oct 31.

Considering the rising number of incidents of elderly persons being neglected by their grown up children, The Assam CM instructed the department to finalize the guideline for providing legislative cover to older parents including government employees at the earliest. Moreover, setting up of educational institutions for mentally retarded persons, establishing two new hostels of working women in the state and preparation of guideline for management of welfare fund to Anganwadi Workers with a view to provide financial assistance on emergencies were also reviewed.

Reviewing the implementation of budget announcements of Power Department, Sonowal asked the department to study the feasibility of greater use of renewable energies apart from augmenting the production of conventional energy sources.

The Assam CM also emphasized on generating more awareness amongst people regarding use of electricity besides the precautions to be followed.

He directed the department to ink an agreement with NGOs for carrying out public awareness programmes in this regard.

Implementation of Solar Power Project at Amguri, electrification of all villages of the state, installation of Smart Meters in Guwahati city and free of cost power connection to 5.41 lakh households of the state were also reviewed in the meeting.

Sonowal also reviewed the budget announcements of Administrative Reforms and Training Department and asked the department to expedite the implementation of projects for setting up of Administrative Training Centre at Umrangsu in Dima Hasao District and four Training Institutes for Grade III and IV employees of state government.

Principal Secretary, Power, Social Welfare Departments etc. Jishnu Baruah, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Sanjay Lohia, Principal Secretary, Finance Ravi Kota and host of other senior officers of state government were present in the meeting.
