Sonia retiring only as President, not from politics : Congress

New Delhi, Dec 15 (IBNS) : Hours after Sonia Gandhi spoke about her "retirement" the Congress on Friday clarified that she only stops working as the party's President and not going for a retreat from active politics. 

"Smt. Sonia Gandhi has retired as President of Indian National Congress and not from politics. Her blessings, wisdom and innate commitment to Congress ideology shall always be our guiding light," AICC spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted.

The clarification comes house after the outgoing Congress chief told reporters, ahead of the first day of the Winter Session of the Parliament, that she would be retiring.

This fuelled speculations over her seclusion from political life.

CNN News-18 quoted Sonia as saying, “My job is to retire,” when asked about her role after son Rahul becomes president on 16 December.
