New Delhi, Sept 5 (IBNS): Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Monday greeted the nation on the occasion of Teacher's Day.

Quoting the Congress supremo, the party floated a series of tweets.

"Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi has extended warm greetings on the occasion of Teachers Day. Recalling the 'Guru-Shishaya' tradition of India, she thanked all teachers for choosing a noble profession of nourishing and shaping human life," it said.

"Smt Gandhi said, Human Civilization owes its prosperity, growth and development to the selfless contribution of teachers," the tweets added.

Gandhi also paid floral tributes to Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, an Indian philosopher and statesman, who was also the country's first Vice-President and second President and on whose honour Teacher's Day is celebrated in the nation.

"Paying glowing tributes to Former President Shri S. Radhakrishnan on his 'Birth Anniversary', Smt Gandhi remembered him as a humanitarian scholar and guiding light for teachers all over the world," the party tweeted.
