After the jawan was injured in the encounter, he was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to the injury.

The encounter broke out after the Army launched an operation based on intelligence input at the Basantgarh area of Udhampur.

Three to four terrorists believed to be from Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) are thought to be trapped in the operation.
