Snoopgate: Father of woman seeks quashing of probe

The father of the woman architect from Bangalore who was allegedly snooped upon reportedly said incriminating materials have been put up on the website Gulail.com and he sought restraint on the probe by the Gujarat government or the Centre.

The father of the woman said she is now married and it would be a violation of her privacy.

The Supreme Court has sent notice to the Centre and the Gujarat government  seeking a response by Friday.

Earlier, the ruling Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government decided not to immediately order a probe into the snooping case in Gujarat linking Narendra Modi.

Media reports earlier said the Congress agreed that next government that would come to power would rather probe Snoopgate involving Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi after the key allies of Congress like the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) of Sharad Pawar and National Conference (NC) of Omar Abdullah said the time of Centre's decision to appoint a judge to head an inquiry commission  to probe into Gujarat's 'snoopgate' scandal was not correct.

Snoopgate, as it is referred to now, is around alleged illegal surveillance on a young woman architect from Bangalore in Gujarat by the Modi regime though BJP said it was done taking her parents into confidence and at their request for the woman's security.

The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday said it will not intervene into the Centre's decision to appoint a judge to head an inquiry commission, by May 16, to probe into 'snoopgate' issue.

The Congress-led UPA on Friday said it will appoint a judge to head an enquiry commission, set up to probe alleged snooping charges against Narendra Modi-led Gujarat government, by May 16.

Investigative news portal Gulail.com had released 39  audio tapes on the alleged snooping row involving Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's key aide and then state home minister Amit Shah.

Investigative news portals claimed claimed they have proofs to suggest that Gujarat intelligence and anti-terrorist squad officers stalked and snooped on this woman even beyond the boundaries of the state. Her would-be husband, parents, brothers and friends were under surveillance too, they claimed.  

Phone conversations were secretly recorded in 2009 by GL Singhal, a former senior police officer in Gujarat, leading to the scandal and in the recorded tapes someone was referred to as "saheb" with the opposition Congress alleging that Narendra Modi was the person referred to as "saheb".
