Sheena Bora still alive: Indrani Mukerjea writes to CBI seeking fresh investigations

Mumbai/IBNS: In a bizarre twist to the 2012 Sheena Bora murder case,  prime accused Indrani Mukerjea has written to the CBI asking to re-investigate the alleged crime, claiming that Bora is still alive, media reports said.

The jailed former media executive, who was arrested for conspiring and murdering her daughter Sheena Bora, claimed that a woman prisoner told her that she had met Sheena Bora in Kashmir, according to an NDTV report.

Sheena Bora was Indrani Mukerjea's daughter from first marriage, whom she had passed off as her sister for years.

Three months after her arrest, Indrani's now former husband Peter Mukerjea was also arrested for involvement in the alleged crime.

According to CBI investigations, Indrani Mukherjea murdered her own daughter as she was enraged with Sheena over her relationship with Rahul Mukerjea, Peter Mukerjea's son from another marriage.

CBI also said that Sheena had threatened to expose Indrani after a financial dispute between them.

After the murder, Indrani told everyone that she had moved to the US.

Three years after the murder, Indrani Mukherjea's driver was arrested in another case.

Police learned from the driver that Sheena's half-burnt body was buried in a forest near Mumbai. The body was dug out and investigations followed.

A total of 60 witnesses gave their statements in the trial which started in 2017.

Indrani Mukerjea and Peter Mukerjea ended their relationship while still in jail and were granted a divorce in 2019.

Peter Mukerjea was released on bail in 2020.

Indrani Mukherjea, 49, has been in the Byculla prison in Mumbai since 2015.
