New Delhi, Jan 31 (IBNS) Former Press Council chairman Markandey Katju on Saturday triggered a controversy for what critics said his 'sexist' remark after he tweeted that Shazia Ilmi was much more beautiful than Kiran Bedi and the former would win in Delhi polls if fielded as CM candidate by BJP.

Katzu, known for being savvy with social networking tools, further said in his tweet that people vote for beautiful faces, and someone like him who does not vote would also have voted for Shazia.

"I regard Shazia Ilmi much more beautiful than Kiran Bedi. If Shazia had been made their C.M. candidate BJP wud have definitely won the Delhi."Markandey Katju @mkatju

"People vote for beautiful faces, as in Croatia. Even a person like me who does not vote would  have voted for Shazia," he tweeted

His comments followed a bitter criticism with many slamming him for being 'sexist.'

Clarifying his stand, the former Press Council chairman urged critics to develop a sense of humour and claimed that his remarks were in a lighter vein.

"Some people objected to my last tweet. My response is : develop a sense of humour. The tweet was in lighter vein,& shud be construed as such."

Kiran Bedi, a former IPS officer, has recently joined the BJP. She is being projected as the party's chief ministerial candidate against former chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal.

Shazia Ilmi, a former AAP leader, who once was close to Kejriwal, also joined the BJP the next day.
