New Delhi, Jul 5 (IBNS): A Delhi High Court on Thursday granted an anticipatory bail to Congress MP Shashi Tharoor who is an accused in the Sunanda Pushkar death case, media reports said.

The bail has been granted by Delhi's Patiala House Court on a surety of Rs. one lakh.

Tharoor now can't leave the country without the permission of the court.

He was earlier summoned to appear before the court on Jul 7.

Pushkar was Tharoor's wife, who died under mysterious circumstances at a hotel room in New Delhi in 2014.

On May 14, Delhi Police filed the chargesheet in connection with the death of Pushkar, naming Tharoor as an abetter.

Charges under sections 498A and 306 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) were filed against the leader.

The same day when the chargesheet was filed, Tharoor had said he will 'contest vigorously' against it.
