Madhubani, Apr 15 (UNI): Senior Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed today resigned from the post of senior spokesperson of AICC and announced to contest Lok Sabha election from Madhubani constituency as an Independent candidate.

Ahmed told UNI that he had resigned from the post and sent his resignation letter to Congress president Rahul Gandhi. He said that he would file nomination papers from Madhubani Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar tomorrow.

“I am not resigning from the Congress,” he said, adding that he was keen to contest the election from Madhunbai on Congress election symbol and he had even made a request to party high command to this effect.

“I have received positive message from party high command and I would wait for its decision till April 18 and if I do not get the nod, I will enter into the electoral fray as an Independent candidate from Madhubani,” he said.
