Gandhinagar, Jul 26 (IBNS): Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel filed his nomination papers on Wednesday at Gandhinagar for the Rajya Sabha seat from Gujarat.

The veteran Congress leader from Bharuch is political secretary to Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

A win at the elections to be held on August 8 will mean he goes to the RS for the fifth consecutive session, media reports said.

According to reports, Patel has claimed that he has the support of former chief minister and now a former party member, Shankersinh Vaghela.

Vaghlea resigned from the party last week but said he will resign as an MLA only after the Rajya Sabha polls, media reported.

For a win, Patel needs 47 votes of the total 57 Congress MLAs in the 182-seat assembly.
