Guwahati: Based on the requisition made by the District Disaster Management Agency (DDMA) in Dima Hasao District, a Columns of Assam Rifles, under the aegis of SpearCorps, was activated to assist the civil administration in providing relief to more than 1000 stranded passengers and facilitated  their evacuation to Guwahati.

Due to heavy rainfall in Dima Hasao district, multiple landslides have led to disruption of rail communication between Haflong- Guwahati.

Acting promptly, a Relief Column  of Assam Rifles was moved to New Haflong Railway station at 1730 hrs on May 14.

The troops provided relief to the stranded passengers in terms of  food, drinking water and basic medical assistance.

The Assam Rifles column also took over security around Railway station and worked in close coordination with Civil  Administration to prevent any law and order contingency  arising out of the tense situation.

In a synergised and well coordinated operation with Civil Administration, the stranded passengers have been evacuated back to Guwahati from Haflong Railway station by rerouting of trains.
